A Sophomore Course in Codesign
نویسندگان
چکیده
Computer W e teach a hardware and software codesign course to second-year students who have expressed an interest in either electronics or informatics (computer science). The course emphasizes concepts and methods that are useful to both hardware and software developers and in particular to developers of embedded systems who must consider both disciplines as well as their interaction. We consider the course to be part of a search for better development methods and hope to increase the number of professional developers. WHY A SOPHOMORE COURSE? As others, we do have a course in hardware/software codesign at the graduate level. However, we believe that introducing codesign at the sophomore level has three advantages:

Dsp Second: a Sophomore Level Dsp Architecture Course in the Electrical Engineering Core
A sophomore level introductory Digital Signal Processing (DSP) architecture course introduces students to concepts of DSP while teaching processor structure and organization and the processor language. This class does not assume that the students have already completed a linear systems class as prerequisite knowledge. Instead it is based on material traditionally taught in the introductory circ...

Faculty working directly with first-year students in the Computer & Information Technology department at IUPUI wished to improve first-year student retention within the program. Initially the team focused on adjusting the flow of content in the program’s foundational courses to ensure their relevance. One course in particular, an introduction to Problem Solving and Qualitative Analysis, was fre...
متن کاملAnalog signal processing: a replacement for the sophomore-level circuit analysis course
A new undergraduate curriculum in electrical engineering has been adopted by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois. Major changes have been incorporated, including a redistribution of the circuits and signal processing topics within the curriculum. After giving an overview of the new curriculum, this paper focuses on a new, required sophomore-level ...
متن کاملHardware/Software Codesign - introducing an interdisciplinary course
In 1997 we introduced a new fourth year/graduate course in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Victoria entitled “VLSI Design, CAD and Hardware/Software Codesign” under the rubric of “Special Topics”, where generic topics courses are the normal way that professors here inaugurate courses based on recent development in our research. The course was subscribed by students from ...
متن کاملInteraction , Concurrency , and OOP in the Curriculum : a Sophomore Course
We argue that a computer-science curriculum should introduce the principles of concurrent programming in an integrated, coherent , and application-independent fashion early in the major. We have incorporated current research into our curriculum. We describe a sophomore-level course on the fundamentals of concurrent and interactive programming that is the fruit of this work. We ooered this cours...
